Active member of U.S. GMDSS Implementation Task Force.
- Assisted with design of U.S.Coast Guard Model Course for GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) which is required of all officers on U.S. flag vessels.
- Subcommittee Chairman of U.S. Coast Guard Question Pool for National GMDSS Training Task Group of U.S.GMDSS Implementation Task Force.
- Author of original 500+question GMDSS Question Pool adopted by U.S. Coast Guard for the 70-Hour Model Course with responsibility to Monitor the USCG/GMDSS theory and FCC GMDSS Question Pools for the GMDSS Task Force, coordinating closely with the U.S. Coast Guard in annual updating of information.
- Received first U.S. Coast Guard-approved GMDSS 70-Hour course that was IMO certified under STCW. Also approved by Australia and in process of receiving approval by several other countries, including United Kingdom and Norway.
- Largest trainer of USCG 70-Hour GMDSS course in the U.S.
- Enjoy contracts with several major maritime academies, Fortune 500 companies, universities, institutes, national unions, and private schools, for teaching and training, licensing and certification courses.
- Network of 150+ Designated Examiners for FCC license examinations, functioning and providing FCC commercial communication license exams to 30% of the U.S. market.
Mr. Byrd holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Chemistry from the University of Alabama; has done postgraduate work in sociology at the University of Kentucky, and also completed doctoral work in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Texas at Dallas.
